Tom Harker and Matt Ward bring a standout jazz afternoon to Southern Maltings.
Experience Miles Davis’s Birth of the Cool played live by a full nonet. This is a rare chance to hear the entire album performed with the rich detail and blend that made it so influential.
Birth of the Cool, released in 1957, broke new ground with fresh arrangements, unusual textures and ideas drawn from classical music. It marked a shift in post-bebop jazz and set a clear direction for what followed.
Tom Harker, former Musical Director of the Hertfordshire Big Band, leads this select line-up through the album from start to finish with both Tom Harker and Matt Ward taking the role of Miles Davis. Expect tight ensemble work and strong musicianship all afternoon.
Join us Upstairs at Southern Maltings for an inspiring spring performance in Ware.
Tickets £17 on the door (if available). £14 in advance. FREE entry for children under 16 if accompanied by an adult.
