As a member of Ware Operatic Society, I was a user of Ware Arts Centre for many years and grew to love the building. I was invited to join the board of trustees in 2003 to assist with the financial administration of the refurbishment of the Centre and the significant grant made by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Later I took over managing the finances and help it grow. In managing the premises, I have learnt a lot about the building but there is always more to learn. I want to see the Southern Maltings building grow into a thriving arts based centre for the people of Ware.

Having supported the idea of a Community Arts Space since the initial campaign, I am excited to be part of this emerging venture. Being a trustee means taking responsibility to protect the fantastic asset for our community, both now and in the future. I am proud to join such a talented team of individuals, and know that together we can develop the Southern Maltings into something really special that truly benefits our community.

Ware is the best town, it has and always has had a strong sense of community and the value that brings to its inhabitants quality of life is immense. Being involved with the Southern Maltings proves to me yet again what a committed group of Ware’ites can achieve. I was proud to be part of the original campaign group that set the Southern Maltings on its way. Now as part Southern Maltings team I am absolutely sure we will succeed in our ambition to create a world class arts centre in the heart of Ware.

From the start of the campaign in January 2014 to ‘Save the Southern Maltings’ my concern has been to keep and conserve the last of Ware’s maltings buildings which has both most of its heritage features and to which the public have access. To give new life to a building that brought wealth and employment to the Town it needed a new purpose. I believe that the best possible solution was and is to convert it to provide space in which local people can be creative, by entertained and learn new skills and something of how for hundreds of years thousands of local people earned their living.

I am passionate about Ware and love its sense of community. From the moment you walk in to the Southern Maltings you are welcome and included. As a trustee I want our whole community to be able to be creative, try new things, meet new people, have fun and most importantly feel at home.
