Join Ware Town Guide John Wing for an atmospheric evening walk through the streets of Ware, hearing tales of ghosts, unexplained happenings and some of the people and places from the town’s past.
Ware Ghost Walks have entertained hundreds of local people since 2008. Now part of Southern Maltings, the walks raise funds to support our charity and our work in the local community.
History, storytelling and a few things which go bump in the night. It’s a different way to discover Ware.
Each Ware Ghost Walk follows a different route through the town, with John sharing stories connected to the streets, buildings, pubs and landmarks along the way.
There are four regular routes plus a special Halloween Ghost Walk, giving returning ghost hunters plenty of fresh stories to discover.
The walks last around 1 hour 15 minutes and start and finish close to one of Ware’s pubs, so there’s somewhere nearby to steady your nerves afterwards.
Your guide for every walk is Ware Town Guide and local historian John Wing.
John has a deep knowledge of Ware and its history, so these are far more than ghost stories. Along the route, you’ll discover more about the people, buildings and events which shaped the town.
John is also the author of A History of the Southern Malting, which documents the building’s history and its journey from working malthouse to community arts centre.
Our special Halloween walk through Ware High Street, with a collection of stories for the spookiest time of year ending on the Town Bridge.
Explore Ware High Street from The Priory, passing the Maltmaker statue and East Street to the Town Bridge – our original walk.
Starting at the Rose & Crown on Watton Road, this route takes you through Park Road, The Bourne, Collett Road ending by The Rifle Volunteer.
Starting in Kibes Lane by the Southern Malting, the walk follows a route through New Road, King Edwards Road, Bowling Road and Star Street before finishing near The Angel.
Currently under construction; a new walk with which to end the season. Watch out for the route – coming soon.
For groups of 12 or more, with the date arranged to suit your group.

Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome
The walks take place outdoors around Ware, so please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
