Sound Bath at Southern Maltings with Loren – a sound bath is an immersive, meditative experience where you are “bathed” in soothing sounds and vibrations created by instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs and chimes.
You lie down with blankets and props to help you become comfortable, your eyes close, I start with a grounding meditation or yoga nidra and simply let layers of sound wash over you, helping to quiet the mind and relax the body.
The vibrations work on a cellular level, supporting the nervous system, reducing stress, and promoting emotional release and energetic balance. Many people experience a shift moving from active thinking into deep rest, similar to meditation or sleep.
Each session is unique, and not always relaxing, gongs can especially bring up sensations and emotions.
You can expect a calm, supportive atmosphere where healing and stillness can naturally arise. Sound baths are accessible to everyone and offer a powerful way to reconnect.
About Loren
I found yoga as a teenager, following a VHS tape in my living room and making shapes simply because it felt good to move. Years later, after a stressful time in my 20s, I walked into my first real yoga class and left feeling lighter, calmer and more connected to myself. What started as exercise slowly became something much deeper.
That journey led me to teacher training, study in yoga, breathwork, meditation and philosophy, and eventually to teaching people of all ages in schools, colleges, studios, gyms, offices and festivals. Along the way, yoga opened the door to other healing practices too including Sound Baths. I love sharing the power of sound because it offers a chance to truly slow down, rest the nervous system and reconnect the ourselves in a gentle, accessible way.
For me, Yoga and sound are about much more than movement or relaxation. They help us find stillness amongst the noise of everyday life and reconnect to ourselves, to nature and to something deeper. My approach is grounded and accessible, creating supportive spaces where people can slow down, build awareness and reconnect with themselves. My intention is simple: to support you to find a sense of calm and connection both within yourself and in the world around you.
What you have to do?
You will be lying on the floor so you need to bring a yoga mat or something comfortable to lie on (people use sun lounger covers/bean bags etc), a pillow to support your head and enough blankets to keep you warm (sometimes the body temperature drops as we relax). Bring whatever will keep you warm and comfortable for the evening.
What happens?
You lie down with blankets to help you become comfortable and your eyes close. The session starts with a grounding meditation or Yoga Nidra and then the sounds of gongs, singing bowls and chimes take over, followed by a period of stillness and silence. You do not need to do anything specifically, simply let layers of sound wash over you.
What do you have to do?
It is referred to as a ‘bath’ because you immerse in the vibrations of sound. During a Sound Bath, participants typically sit or lie down, getting comfortable with blankets and pillows.
You will be invited to passively soak up the benefits of the sound. It is worth noting that not all sounds can be felt as pleasant or relaxing, sound can bring up emotions and feelings. You can expect a calm, supportive atmosphere where healing and stillness can naturally arise.
How long will it last?
The typical length of time is between 60 and 90 minutes. People say that in a sound bath experience they lose all track of time and space, so it is likely to pass quite quickly for you.
How does it work?
1. Sound bypasses the intellectual part of the brain and creates space for the mind to become less busy. This leads to a clear and quiet mind.
2. Vibrations relax the nervous system allowing tension to reduce and circulation to improve. Some people experience a sense of letting go as the sound opens the natural energy flow in the body.
3. The reverberation of sound reorganises emotional energy to a more balanced state.
4. Ultimately sound helps our body to repair and heal itself.
