At Southern Maltings, we believe in creating a vibrant and inclusive space where the youth of Ware can thrive. SMYLE (Southern Maltings Youth Led Events) is our response to a clear need for accessible, local, and safe social spaces for teens in Ware. Our youth-led initiative is designed to offer exciting activities and events that cater to the interests of young people, giving them a place to connect, learn, and have fun without needing to leave town.
We’re thrilled to launch SMYLE with a Silent Disco for Under 18s – a fantastic evening of music, dancing, and fun, all in a safe and inclusive environment. This is just the beginning! Future events will include:
Stay tuned for more details about these and other events!
SMYLE events are created by young people, for young people, ensuring they resonate with the needs and interests of Ware youth. These events offer an affordable way for teens to connect with their community, explore their creativity, and make new friends.
Here’s what makes SMYLE special:
Every SMYLE activity is designed with input from young people in the area. This ensures our events reflect what teens actually want, not just what adults think they need.
From silent discos and open mic nights to film screenings and workshops on music production, SMYLE offers something for everyone. These activities allow teens to explore new skills, express themselves, and build confidence in a relaxed setting.
SMYLE is committed to fostering a safe space where everyone feels comfortable. Our events promote inclusivity and respect, ensuring all attendees can enjoy themselves without fear of judgment.
Recognising the financial challenges some families face, SMYLE events are priced affordably, making them accessible to everyone.
Through research and surveys conducted with local schools, we’ve uncovered significant gaps in the opportunities available for teens in Ware:
Ware’s teens currently lack local venues where they can meet friends and socialise in a safe and welcoming environment. Most activities cater either to early years or retired individuals, leaving a significant demographic without the social spaces they need.
Opportunities for teens to participate in group activities, such as music, cinema, or learning technical skills related to the arts, are minimal. Many young people have expressed a strong desire for more local, engaging activities.
Today’s youth seek environments where they can be themselves without fear of judgment. Inclusivity is at the heart of SMYLE, where everyone is welcome to join and enjoy activities tailored to diverse interests.
Most existing entertainment options, such as music gigs or cinema trips, require teens to travel outside of Ware. This inconvenience often leads to missed opportunities for socialising and personal growth.
Whether you’re a teen looking for fun things to do in Ware or a parent searching for safe and engaging activities for your child, SMYLE has something for you. We’re building a community that values the energy, creativity, and passion of Ware youth.
Get involved by attending an event, spreading the word, or sharing your ideas. Together, we can create the local, safe, and inclusive space that Ware’s teens need.
