Another chance for you to experience a wonderful beginner’s abstract workshop with Amanda Cosgrove!
This time Amanda is running a short series of workshops: Discover the Freedom of Abstract Art. All workshops can all be booked as standalone workshops, or follow on from each other and fit together to make a short course, which can be booked for a discounted price.
Have you ever wanted to paint but felt intimidated by rules and realism? Our Beginners Abstract Art course is designed for complete beginners and those with some experience who want to explore the exciting world of abstraction.

Session 1: Sunday 15th February Learn what abstract art is, build confidence in starting and experimenting with mark making, and have fun with colours, shapes, and textures, creating your first expressive piece.

Session 2: Sunday 1st March Dive deeper into composition and technique, exploring how to build depth and balance in your work.

Session 3: Sunday 22nd March Find your unique voice, refine your style, and learn how you might ‘rescue’ a painting. You will also create a final piece to take home.
Acrylic painting workshop with Amanda Cosgrove abstract artist!
This workshop is suitable for artists of all abilities but particularly those beginners looking to develop abstract acrylic painting skills in a fun and positive environment; they are tailored to suit everyone’s needs.
You will learn tips and techniques for using acrylics and how to let yourself be free to explore the world of abstract art.
All materials are provided, including an A3 Canvas and acrylic paints, but if you have some special paint colours, art supplies don’t hesitate to bring them along. Beginners or those who want social company whilst exploring this art form – everyone is welcome. Just come along and have some fun. Last year, Amanda exhibited at Southern Maltings in her beautiful exhibition with fellow artist Jenny Junior entitled Vintage Jewels and Abstract Journeys.
Tea and coffee provided.
Structure of the workshop:
- Short introduction of the artist, introduction of the techniques she used to create her exhibited paintings.
- Getting started – making those first few marks and seeing where they lead/Having the confidence to be brave and experiment
- Make informed decisions regards colour and brushes etc.
- Working as a group and individually on a variety of activities including a final piece of your own to take home.

Suitable for anyone aged 16+.
This workshop is being run with a maximum capacity of 8 participants and will be for 3 hours from 10am – 1pm on Sunday 15th February in our Main Studio at a cost of £35.
